Get hyped with ‘Unmute x Levi’s’!

Unmute is an event organised by the universitiy’s very own music society, in which has lived up to its name as the central plaza (fountain area) was truly ‘unmuted’ by UNMC’s most talented artists on the night of 10th April 2018. With Levi’s as the co-organiser, there were multiple booths made available during the event, and the first one to catch my attention was the recycling booth. The whole idea of the booth, as well as its purpose, was to encourage people to bring their seemingly old and boring denim jeans to D.I.Y them, thus making them to be both wearable and stylish. For instance, some would paint all over their jeans, but the results were astonishing. Right next to the recycling booth, you would find that vending machine. With just some changes, you may pick a number to dispense and try out your luck. The envelopes contain various items, such as laces and RM200 vouchers. In addition to that, one would probably wonder why Levi’s has made an appearance for the event, and the answer to that question is that they attended as a panel of judges who would be in charge picking the ultimate winner of the competition. Moreover, Levi’s are on tour with a famous Malaysian band known as ‘An Honest Mistake’, moving from one university to another in order to select a winning team from each educational institutions so as to be qualified for a chance to compete Levi’s products for which its worth is up to a total of RM2000, headlining a special showcase at the bee and finally recording a single with...

SWA6? Checked!

SWA6: Academy! has made its comeback on the 4th and 5th April of 2018 at the Great Hall. For those who are wondering what is SWAG all about: It is an annual dance production, in which is the biggest dance showcase brought to you by our very own Nottingham Dance Club (NDC), where it presents a plethora of dance performances by the choreographers-in-charge and students, as well as renowned guests performances. In addition to that, for both the years 2017 and 2018, it has been awarded for the ‘Best Student Campus Experience’ by the Students’ Association. What a feat! 2018 has marked its 6th annual production (hence SWA6), and they have had prepared a whole line up of interesting performances, consisting of various genres, such as Hiphop, K-Pop, Bollywood, Tap Dance, Girls’ Style and others as well. At the end of the performances, we conducted a simple evaluation by interviewing several students for their opinions in regards to the production. The questions asked were: Did you enjoy your SWA6 experience? If so, why? What was good about the production and/or what could have been done better? Overall, based on the data collected, most of the participants were satisfied with the performances and specifically commended that the K-Pop and Girls’ Style performances have caught their attention the most. In addition to that, the majority of them also came into an agreement that choreography were mostly ‘interesting’, ‘nice’ and ‘well-organised’. On the other hand, they have also stated that several areas of the production could be improved, such as the opening performance, in which the lighting was slightly unclear for the...

Nottingham Charity Run 2018!

On the 25th March 2018, the University of Nottingham Malaysia proudly hosted their 10th Nottingham Charity Run. As a pacer of the run, I had the privilege to be a part of the committee that worked hard to make this grand event a success. There a total of 3 categories consisting of various different distances, this gave some participants good early morning cardio and others a chance to push their limits. At 5.45AM, members of the fitness club gathered to discuss the routine for the warm up for the half marathon runners. This got their muscles ready and prepared for the intense running that started at 6.30AM. Members of the 24 season drums were present to instill a sense of readiness in the runners at the starting point before they began their half marathon journey. The registration and event crew members were friendly and helpful as they radiate the early morning spirit of happiness. There were a number of external participants along with Nottingham students that took part in the run. The second batch of runners started appearing around 6.20AM for the warm up by again the Fitness Club members. Being that their flag off time is at 7AM, participants were already filling their tummies with bread and energy drinks from 7 Eleven. There were different routes for different categories of participants. For me, I participated in the 10km run along with my friends, and let me tell you, it was one heck of a workout, especially at 7 in the morning. The surrounding was cooling before the sun appeared however, the air degraded in freshness due...
