UNMC Valentine Speed Dating

UNMC Valentine Speed Dating

In conjunction with Valentine’s Day, SA Sustainability Network took another creative spin and organised a fund-raising event named ‘Valentine Speed Dating’. A charitable cause, the idea of the event was to provide a chance for students to meet and interact with each other. Profits from the fundraiser are channeled to charity through the SA grant. There were a total of 42 people, 21 pairs of mixed genders, who participated.  As with a typical speed dating session, the participants were required to switch partners after every session, each lasting between five to ten minutes. The ladies were seated with numbered tables, whereas the men were assigned a random sequence of numbers, and would rotate between numbers accordingly after each session, for a total of 7 sessions. The event lasted for approximately an hour. Comment cards were placed on the tables so that they could write a few words about each session as it ended and then drop them off in the respective lady/gentleman’s envelopes on one side of the room. Many participants left each other honest and encouraging messages. Some even had the chance to exchange contact details on the comment cards. According to participants, they had enjoyed themselves and some commented that it was not as awkward as they had initially thought it would be. Some said it was just like any other social event which granted opportunities to get to know new people. A few even asked for the event to be continued next year. Hence, if you missed the event this year, do not fret as you may have your chance next year!   ATTN: The next SA event would be...
UNMC Cafeteria: Food Inspection

UNMC Cafeteria: Food Inspection

On the 16th and 25th of November 2016, the SA conducted a Food Inspection in the UNMC Cafeteria together with Campus Services and the Health & Safety Office (H&S). The SA teams involved were the Sustainability Network, International Student Bureau, Home and Marketing & Communications. The objectives of the inspection were to ensure the quality of service offered by the vendors are of an acceptable standard in terms of hygiene and F&B ethical obligations, among other things. A specific checklist approved by the Campus Services office was used as the main guideline for the inspection. Two individuals from either SA, H&S or Campus Services teamed up to inspect the stalls and also the staff who were on duty. Some of the criteria would include the cleanliness of the workers (whether they dressed appropriately and used proper equipment such as aprons and covered shoes). A thorough inspection of the kitchenware and how ingredients were stored was also done as part of the strict criteria. SA and Health & Safety Office working together to examine one of the stalls at the cafeteria.       SA Executives, Home (left), ISB (right), and also Sustainability, were some of the evaluators in the Inspection. Events Calendar Launch

Events Calendar Launch

Events Calendar is finally ready! The functionality is pretty straight forward and I would suggest that everyone play around with it a bit and check it out rather than this being the typical walk through post on how to use the calendar. Currently it just has one event but hopefully that will not be the case once the clubs and societies submit their events to the Events Calendar. Events Calendar The aim of the events calendar is to have all the clubs and societies events in one place so that all students are aware of events organised by the Clubs and Societies regardless of whether they are a member or not, be able to join in on events that they may miss out on for whatever reason. Also this goes to addresses some of the students that just blurt out “UNMC is so boring, there is nothing to do”. One Key feature that i would like to point out is, the feature to add events directly into your Google™ Calendar. Please make sure of it as much as you can so that you never miss an event that you’d like to go to. All the fields along with Location of the Event are filled out automatically and you just have to add it to your calendar.     Clubs and Societies are encouraged to submit their events to the Events Calendar. Generally events will get posted as soon as it’s reviewed. The more clear and concise the filling up of the form is the faster we can review it and approve it to go on...
Welcome!

Welcome!

Firstly let me welcome you to the NEW Student Association website. This website is being developed in stages. If you are interested in finding out more about whats in store for the website read on. First Phase (Completed) Clubs and Societies Catalog All clubs listed on the website allows for signups. This was done so that new students as well as old students can engage the clubs and societies and also signup with them well before CS fair. This hopefully will allow clubs and societies to gauge how much effort you will need to put in to achieve your targets for member signups and hopefully increase your member acquisition compared to previous years. New clubs and societies will be listed out once all the ones that have applied have officially been reviewed by the SA staff and the Activities Officer. Student Council Student Council’s engagement and role is mostly known in certain groups. This year we wont to change that and increase participation and engagement, therefor please check them out and if you are interested read about them here.  The page is filled up with information you might want to know about the role of council and we do hope that you will participate. SA Alumni This is currently being updated as we get more information about the previous SA execs, but hopefully this page will be filled with all the previous execs (from when the SA was first established). We want to value what our previous execs have done for the SA and the university, as most of the plans that the previous execs have laid out and...
