SA Education Network

 i) The Education Officer shall be the chairperson of the Education Network.

ii) The Education Officer is the Executive officer responsible for the academic welfare of all students.

iii) He/She may arrange meetings with senior university staff and members of the Education Network.

iv) The Education Network is in a prime position to take forward your views and make a real difference.

v) The Education Network consists of four interconnected components: Course Representatives, School Representatives, Faculty Representatives and the Education Officer. The Postgraduate Education Officer will be an honorary member of the Education Network.

vi) Ensure that Faculty Committee Meetings are carried out alongside the duties listed in 16.7

What is Learning Community Forum(LCF)?
i. Learning Community Forum (LCF) exists in each department and is governed by the University’s quality manual. ii. There must be at least one LCF in each School, and they each should meet at least three times per year. Students have the opportunity to elect, and to stand to become their respective course representative. iii. It is the responsibility of the course representatives to effectively communicate issues between the students of their respective course, the school management through the LCF meetings and head of school, and the executives of the Student Association, including the SA manager via the Education Officer. Student Representatives are encouraged to Chair and carry up all administrative procedures.
Course Representative
(a) The quota of course representatives should be decided on a course-by-course basis in each school. (b) Each course representative should be elected amongst students on their own course by those students in a manner determined on a school-by-school basis, in accordance with the University’s Quality Manual. On election, both the School and the Course Representative should inform the Education Officer. (c) Course Representatives, collectively in each school should act as the primary point of contact for students on their course on issues of academic representation. (d) Course Representatives should discuss topical issues from their course mates and LCF meetings with their School Representative and their Faculty Representative at and between the faculty representative meetings. (e) Schools should provide students with facilities to communicate with the students on their course and in their school. This should include details on the school website and display prominently throughout the department. Course representatives are responsible to ensure this happens. (f) Course Representatives should attend, and actively contribute to, all faculty reps meetings when called.
School Representative
(a) Definition The School Representatives are full members of the Education Network, having oversight over the Course Representatives liaison between university departments and the Students’ Association. School Representatives shall work according to the guidelines set by the Student Association. (b) General (i) School Representatives, should as a matter of course, be the first point of contact to all Course Representatives in their school. (ii) School Representatives are expected to attend all Education Network Committee meetings, and raise all relevant issues. (iii) School Representatives are expected to be present in every meeting scheduled by the Education Officer in order to act as vocal advocates for the Course Representatives and for all students in their school (iv) School Representatives are expected to attend every meeting called by their Faculty Representatives, feeding issues from the Course Representatives in their respective schools. (v) School Representatives must attend every relevant meeting to their School. (vi) School Representatives are expected to keep abreast with all major academic issues which arise in their school, notifying Faculty Representatives and the Education Officer as appropriate. (c) School Meetings (i) School Representatives are responsible for facilitating and chairing School Representatives meetings. (ii) Meetings should be called at least twice per semester and additionally if necessary. (iii) All Student Representatives should be aware of meeting and have opportunity to contribute by their presence in the meeting.  
Faculty Representative
(a) Definition The Faculty Representatives are full members of the Education Network, having oversight over the School and Course Representatives liaison between university departments and the Students’ Association. Faculty Representative shall work according to the guidelines set by the Student Association.   (b) General (i) Faculty Representative, should as a matter of course, be the first point of contact to all School Representatives and Course Representatives in their faculty. (ii) Before and after each meeting, the Faculty Representative should ensure all School Representatives have feedbacks from discussed issues with their respective Course Representatives. (iii) Faculty Representatives are expected to attend all Education Network Committee meetings, and raise all relevant issues. (iv) Where School Representatives and/or Course Representatives are having difficulties, they should be directed to seek advice from the Education Officer. (v) Faculty Representatives have to attend every meeting relevant to their faculties.   (c) Faculty Meetings (i) Faculty Representatives are responsible for facilitating and chairing Faculty Representatives meetings (ii) Meetings should be called at least once per semester and additionally if necessary (iii) All Student Representatives should be aware of meeting and have opportunity to contribute by their presence in the meeting
How can you join the Education Network?
An election will be done before the academic year end for electing the next batch of representative in Education Network.   Voting Members for the incoming Representatives will consist of: – Education Officer – Faculty Representatives – School Representatives – Course Representatives In the event of an incoming, Representative position consisting of no applicants, the selection will take place in September, under the jurisdiction of the newly elected Education Officer In the event of a tie, the current Education Officer must conduct interviews of the candidates and make the arbitrary decision.
