The General Elections for the Students Association Executive Team are being held every year end of March.

This is one of the best ways to have your say on how your Students Association is run and an opportunity for you to represent your fellow students. If you think you have all that is needed to make a positive impact for yourself and fellow students at UNMC, go ahead and run for elections and be part of the change making process.

The Students Association Executives will make sure that the students’ voices are heard and that their interests are taken seriously with regards to life at UNMC.

  1. SA President
  2. SA Vice President
  3. Activities Officer
  4. Sports Officer
  5. Home Students Officer
  6. International Students Officer
  7. Education Officer
  8. Sustainability Officer

The job roles for each of these positions are listed below.

You may refer to these as a summarized list of the responsibilities each SA Executive will be handling. For full details about the job descriptions, you may refer to the SA Constitution.

 

 

SA President
  • Coordinate with SA Manager for allocation of duties.
  • Line manager of Executive Officers; directing enquiries to relevant Officers and staffs
  • Representing SA at external meetings and functions where a non-specific SA presence is required or requested, and leading SA delegation to National Student Association Councils.
  • Meeting regularly with UNMC’s two Vice-presidents and Director of Administrative Support Services to maintain a constant communication channel between the University and the SA, and for reporting back to Executive Committee and Council.
  • Publishing and approving all press releases.
  • Ensure adequate training of current and incoming Executive and Committee members.
  • Attending meetings organised by Student Services Committee, Environment Committee and Safety Committee.
  • Overseeing any cross-campus election appeals.
SA Vice President
  • Providing information pertaining SA to students, via websites and publications
  • Attending all executive sub-committee meetings, and present alongside the SA president in meeting with university’s management.
  • Recruiting members of Communication Team, and leading the committee or appointing an appropriate head.
  • Taking minutes during Executives and Executives Sub-Committee meetings, and making sure the availability of the minutes to students.
  • In charge of matters concerning Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), which includes organising delegations to activities relating to or organised by MOHE.
  • Coordinate all Freshers’ Activities (Freshers’ Induction and Freshers’ Week and Clubs and Societies Fair).
  • Responsible for interpretation, maintenance, and production of the SA Constitution, Regulations and Policy File and all related items. Also responsible for aiding prospective and current Clubs & Societies write and amend their constitutions.
  • Administration and coordination of SA annual grand meeting (AGM).
Sustainability Officer
  • Representing the interests of Student Association members in the area of equal rights and tackle issues surrounding the environment and social justice.
  • Raising awareness and distribution of information within the Student Association of the importance of equal rights, environmental and social justice issues.
  • Organise and recruit members for Sustainability Network.
  • Investigating any social concern regarding corporate involvement in SA or UNMC
  • Organising and chairing the Sustainability Forum, a public forum discussing matters and initiatives concerning environmental awareness, equal rights, and charitable activities, at least twice a semester.
  • Representing the SA along with the SA President at the Campus Environmental Committee.
Home Student Officer
  • Home Students Officer is the lead representative of the local students in University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus.
  • The Officer must hold a Malaysian Passport.
  • The Officer must delegate any and all issues related to the local students, regarding areas of welfare such as food, transport, accommodation and security.
  • The Officer is the Co-Chairperson of the Food Network, Accommodation Network, Security Network, Transport Network and Health Network.
  • The Officer must attend Student Services Committee meetings.
  • The Officer must be an honorary member of the International Students Bureau.
  • The Officer will co-represent the Campus Services Committee with the International Students Officer.
International Students Officer
  • International Students Officer is the lead representative of the international students in University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus.
  • The Officer must hold a Non-Malaysian Passport.
  • The Officer must delegate any and all issues related to the international students, regarding areas of welfare such as food, transport, accommodation and security.
  • The Officer is the Co-Chairperson of the Food Network, Accommodation Network, Security Network, Transport Network and Health Network.
  • The Officer must attend Student Services Committee meetings.
  • The Officer is the President of the International Students Bureau.
  • The Officer is responsible for collaborating and supporting the Sports Officer and the Nottingham Sports Team (NST) in organizing and executing the Nations Cup sporting event with the help of the ISB.
  • The Officer is responsible for the organization and execution of the International Cultural Week.
  • The Officer will co-represent the Campus Services Committee with the International Students Officer.
Education Officer
  • Education Officer must be a former member of the Education Network.
  • The Officer is the Chairperson of the Education Network.
  • The Officer must be responsible for general educational matters.
  • The Officer must provide an effective input in policy-making of educational matters in the University.
  • The Officer must collaborate with the Postgraduate Education Network.
  • The Officer must coordinate with and support and Faculty/Academic Boards and Staff/Student Feedback Committees
  • The Officer must monitor the services for the students with special educational needs.
  • The Officer must be responsible for liaising with the University Registrar’s Department and Academic staff.
  • The Officer must be responsible for liaising with the Student Unions in China and United Kingdom on and be the point of contact on educational matters.
  • The Officer must monitor education issues regarding Outward Mobility and Internationalization.
Activities Officer
  • The Activities Officer will create a lively and fun atmosphere on campus.
  • The Officer will organize extracurricular activities, including but not limited to “Freshers’ Week” and the “Annual Dinner”.
  • The Officer will cooperate with clubs and societies to organize events.
  • The Officer will be the chairperson of the SA Activities Network and Freshers’ Week Network, and will chair and coordinate the Clubs and Societies Committee.
  • The Officer will be responsible for organizing the Clubs and Societies Fair, including producing a Guidebook for the Clubs and Societies.
  • The Officer will be responsible for providing assistance to all Clubs and Societies, including assistance in creation of new CS, production of publicity materials, planning and holding large events and advising on all relevant matters.
  • The Officer will be responsible for creating the Events Monitoring Team (EMT), and appointing a Societies Deputy who will be its head.
  • The Officer will liaise with the Sports Officer and the Clubs and Societies Committee.
  • The Officer will be responsible for making all relevant individuals aware of matters that concern the Clubs and Societies Committee.
Sport Officer
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining good relationships between the Sports Complex, the students and external sports related bodies.
  • Responsible for the production and implementation of development plans for the Sports Community.
  • Shall be a permanent member of the Sports Committee.
  • Shall be responsible for organizing the Nations Cup multi-cultural sporting event in collaboration with the International Students’ Bureau.
  •  Shall Chair the Sports Network.

Nominations Open:  20th Feb to 1st March 5:00 pm

Mandatory Candidates Briefing: 1st March 2016 7:30 pm

Campaigning Period: 2nd March – 16th March

Hustings:  10th March – 16th March 

Voting:  17th March – 20th March 5:00 pm

Result Announcement:  20th March 7:00 pm
