The Nations Cup was conceived during the academic year of 2011/2012 as an event to promote inter-nation sportsmanship. Facilitating integration of communities within UNMC used to fall under the International Students Bureau (ISB) mandate and the idea for a campus wide sports event involving almost all communities on campus was seen as an immensely appealing idea. With the increasing trend of participants of Nations Cup throughout the years, this year’s event is pointed toward becoming the biggest sports event on campus. It will further ensure the increase in students’ participation alongside the aspiration of increasing students’ appreciation in sports. This is targeted through getting the entire student body to be vigorously involved in the event and promote a practice of a sportier and healthier lifestyle on campus. Nations Cup this year and ensures the allocation of a significant number of its resources to ensure its success. Last year’s Nations Cup 2014/15 saw a promising number of participants, significantly more female participants, and this year’s aim is to bring more of the student body together not only as athletes but as spectators in show of support for nations and high appreciation for sports. The Nations Cup this year is chaired by the SA Sports Officer alongside the ISB President.
