General

What are the latest updates on the SOPs that the university will be rolling out in the upcoming semester?

Please refer to the email sent on 11 August 2020 titled “Looking ahead to the next academic year”.

The Malaysian Government (Higher Education Ministry) had made an announcement regarding the reopening of higher education campuses in October. How will the University respond to this?

New SOPs have been drafted by the University Management based on the government update. Please refer to the email sent on 11 August 2020 titled “Looking ahead to the next academic year”.

Will there be any face-to-face teaching conducted in the Autumn Semester, given the latest update from the government?

In accordance with the announcement by the Ministry of Higher education regarding the opening of higher education institutions, the University management has drafted SOPs for “blended learning” and these regulations will be rolled out to the entire student body in the Autumn 2020 semester starting October. For more information, please refer to the email sent on 11 August 2020 titled “Looking ahead to the next academic year”.

As most of the teaching will be conducted through digital platforms, will there be any reduction in the tuition fee?

No, there will be no reduction in tuition fee. However, there are installment plans and hardship funds that students facing financial difficulties are encouraged to apply for. Additionally, students are also welcome to write an email to the finance office explaining their situation. The situation will be looked into on a case-by-case basis.

The SA has met with management regarding this issue, and a formal email from the Management is expected to be sent addressing this issue to maintain transparency with the students.

I am facing difficulty using digital platforms to pursue my studies, who should I contact?

For academic specific problems, you are encouraged to reach out to your personal tutor. For wellbeing purposes, wellbeing services are available to those who require it. For other purposes and questions, please feel free to email the SA Executives and we will assist you accordingly.

Can I use the facilities in the Students’ Association building? (i.e. Games Room, Activity Room)

    Accommodation

I have some questions about on-campus accommodation, who should I contact?

Will all accommodation services be running as usual? (cleaning, maintenance etc.)

Yes, both housekeeping and maintenance services are available. Please book these services through E-Housekeeping and E-Sam Ticketing.

Clubs and Societies

How will the Clubs and Societies Executives Camp (CSEC) be held ?

Given the current situation, it is most likely to be conducted online. However, it is quite early to comment on this and the situation closer to the proposed dates will be assessed to make the final decision.

When will the Clubs and Societies Executive Camp be held?

It is normally held a few weeks before the start of the Autumn Semester in the month of September. However, the exact dates will be informed to all the invitees once confirmed.

Will the Clubs and Societies Fair be conducted in Autumn Semester?

Yes. The Students’ Association will keep you updated as more details are confirmed.

How will the Clubs and Societies Fair be conducted?

We, the SA Execs alongside the SA Staff are working on an alternative way to conduct the fair online, in order to be compliant with the current government regulations.

When will the Clubs and Societies be permitted to host their first event?

The Clubs and Societies are permitted to host their event one week after the Clubs and Societies Fair. The exact date will be confirmed closer to the start of the semester.

Will the Clubs and Societies be allowed to conduct face-to-face events during Autumn Semester?

According to the current guidelines, no face-to-face events will be permitted for the Autumn Semester.

Will the Clubs and Societies be allowed to conduct face-to-face events during Spring Semester?

As the safety measures are expected to be relaxed starting January 2021, face-to-face events will be permitted during Spring Semester.

What is the duration of a membership for a Club or Society?

One full academic year (i.e September 2020 to May 2021).

What will the Membership fee to join a Club or Society be for the academic year 2020/21?

Sports CS – RM20
Non-Sports CS – RM10*

*Or the amount stated in their respective constitution.

Finance

International Students

Can I return to Malaysia to continue my studies at the university?

Currently, the Malaysian immigration allows international students to enter Malaysia but you will need to get prior permission from the university to be allowed into the country along with other relevant documents. Please contact the International Office to learn about the procedure and get more information.

The University has also detailed some SOPs on how international students can return to campus. Please refer to the email sent on 11 August 2020 titled “Looking ahead to the next academic year”.

As an International student, am I allowed to do a part-time job outside of campus?

International students are allowed to work for 20 hours per week at mini markets, petrol stations, restaurants and hotels. However, you are required to submit an application form to the visa office and get approval from the immigration before you can start working.

How can I resume my studies at the university if I am not able to return to Malaysia?

The university will commence blended teaching from October 2020 onwards. This is an approach that combines both online and face-to-face learning. If you are a student who is unable to return to Malaysia, you can continue to learn fully online throughout the semester.

    Visa

My passport is now with immigration/EMGS. I wish to travel immediately. What should I do?

Contact the VISA office with the relevant documents and passport information and they will revert to you immediately. Contact visarenewal@nottingham.edu.my  for more information.

What will happen to my student visa if I decide to defer my studies?

You will be required to shorten your current visa and apply for a new VAL for the next academic year that you would like to join.

Whom can I contact if I have an urgent query pertaining to my visa issues?

Should you have any further queries regarding renewal of visa please contact visarenewal@nottingham.edu.my for more information.

I am an international student and I still have a few more questions, who should I contact?

If your questions have not been answered by this email, feel free to contact the International Students’ Officer (sainternational@nottingham.edu.my) who will try their best to answer your question or direct you to the appropriate departments.

IT Services

Library

Postgraduate Students

When can I access the laboratory facilities?

Currently, Postgraduate research students are allowed to enter the laboratory from Monday – Friday between 8.30am to 5.30pm.

I am a PGT student, can I get an extension for my dissertation? If yes, can I choose to have a face to face convocation in February?

Please refer to your module convenor for an extension for your dissertation. 

In compliance with government regulations, the July convocation will be held virtually. However, how the February convocation will be held will depend on the government regulations of that time. The university will keep you updated regarding the February convocation.

What are the SOPs for the use of the laboratory facilities?

To avoid the violation of social distancing measures, PGR students are required to make slot bookings prior. Only students approved booking emails will be allowed to enter the laboratories.

Additionally, to use Block N workspaces, students are also required to sign their attendance in the logbook located at NB12.

I do not want to use the laboratory facilities, can I still access my office room?

Yes, office rooms are available for the use of PGR students given. The booking for usage of office rooms must be made one week prior to the day of usage. Please email kasapgo@nottingham.edu.my for further details on office room access.

I am a progressing Phd student, can I request for an extension for my annual review report?

Please discuss with your respective supervisor and submit an ECF to request for an extension. However, it is not guaranteed that all ECF submission will be given the extension.

I am a postgraduate student and I have further questions, who should I contact?
